Preparing to paint
  • What tools do I need?

Masking tape will create a clean edge and protect anything you don't want to paint.

Dust sheets will cover and protect your carpets and furniture.

Rollers will paint large areas quicker than a brush and create an even finish.

Paint brushes of varying sizes help navigate tricky corners, edging and cornices.

Roller extensions are useful to paint high walls or stairwells.

Radiator rollers are really helpful to paint down the back of radiators.

  • Which type of roller should I use?

Use a short pile roller to paint interior walls to get a smooth finish.

Use a long pile roller to paint rough surfaces such as a brick fireplace.

You can use a mini foam roller as well as brushes to paint doors, woodwork or furniture.

  • What kind of paintbrush should I use?

Large brushes are useful for painting furniture, doors and areas where a roller won't fit.

Small brushes or edging brushes are useful for painting corners, edges and cornices.

Synthetic bristle brushes work really well with our water based paint as the bristles don't expand when they get wet.

  • How should I prepare a room before painting?

Make sure your surface is clean and dry – no grease, dirt or dust. Get rid of any old flaky paint and then lightly sand. Mask any woodwork you don't want to paint and protect your carpets and furniture from paint splatter and spills by covering them with dust sheets or carpet protector.

Using Painthouse paint
  • Where do I start painting?

Paint a room from top to bottom. Ceiling first, then walls, skirting, doors and window sills.

  • How many coats should I paint?

We recommend a minimum of two coats of paint. Painthouse paint has excellent coverage. Using a primer on woodwork will also help you get better coverage in less coats.

What is the best paint for walls?

Our non-toxic, emission free with near zero VOC water based paint works on walls, ceilings, and wood. It goes on smoothly and is touch dry in 30 minutes at a room temperature of 20 degrees C.

  • How do you paint behind pipes and radiators?

First cover pipes and the edges of radiators with masking tape. Then use an angled, long reach paintbrush or narrow radiator roller to paint behind tricky pipes and radiators.

  • How do I clean my paint brushes and rollers?

Our water based paint is an easy-clean kind of paint. Just wash your brushes and rollers in tap water. Nice and simple.

  • How long after painting can me or my family sleep in the bedroom?

Painthouse paint is non-toxic and emission free with near zero VOC and is child and pet friendly. It's also touch dry in 30 minutes at a temperature of 20 degrees C. You or your family can go back to sleep in their room as soon as it's dry.

  • How long will the paint keep?

Painthouse paint will keep for 12 months when sotried in a cool, dry and well ventilated area (5 to 25 degree C).
