Colour Report 2019 – colour focus on YELLOW

18 January 2019

We’re hearing non-stop about Pantone’s Colour of the Year ‘Living Coral’ – we absolutely love this pinky hue but what other colours will be trending in 2019? Here is some fabulous advice from interiors and colour expert, Zoe Anderson of London’s design destination, W.A.Green – and it’s all about glorious yellow today!

Part three - Yellow is the colour of sunshine and is commonly associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy making it a bold choice for kitchens, dining rooms and bathrooms. It can be extremely welcoming, so should be considered for hallways or other entertaining spaces. It’s a natural colour referencing uplifting parts of nature such as sunflowers and daffodils.

People who choose to wear yellow are generally seen as confident and self-assured. Thanks to Harvey Ross Ball’s acid yellow smiley face creation we directly associate it with smiling, perhaps; this also leads to a direct correlation to youth. Traditionally, babies’ rooms are painted yellow when the parents would like to stay gender neutral.

The key colour from Painthouse:

Olando Yellow - A bold cheery sunshine yellow paint with a hint of mustard. Olando is the perfect pop of accent colour and an instant pick me up.

Zoe says:

“I’ve always been drawn to yellow and it’s a colour I’ve never been scared of, but I think you can use it in subtle ways too. I’d use it as an accent colour in my own home.

The trend for 2019 is moving more towards sunshine yellow or mustard colourways. I’d love to create a feature wall using accents in a pop of Olando Yellow but my latest colour crush is the combination of yellow and pink - I think this will be absolutely everywhere in the new year and yellow is all set to be the new Millennial Pink.”
