Pantone Colour of The Year 2021

11 December 2020

Yesterday, Pantone announced their Colour of The Year 2021: Illuminating 13-0647 and Ultimate Grey 17-5104. To capsulate this year of uncertainty, these two shades highlight how two different elements can come together to support one another.

Patone's Illuminating represents our feelings of optimism for the future. It's a sunny yellow full of character, energy and hope for a brighter future. Whilst Patone's Ultimate Grey is emblematic of solid elements and foundations which are everlasting. Ultimate Grey highlights our feelings of resilience and stability and quietly assures that we can stand the test of time.

"The union of an enduring Ultimate Grey with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time, warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit" - Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of The Pantone Color Institute

The most glorious of shades, yellow feels positive, confident and optimistic, something we all need a little bit more of after a year of uncertainty and worry.

Cheery yellows like our warming Avery, pastel Toni or khaki-toned Leo help to give interiors a lively lift of colour that fills spirits with hope. The perfect shade for hallways and porches, yellows wrap guests in a warming and reassuring hug of colour.

A truly sophisticated neutral, the colour grey is the perfect background to bounce other vibrant accent colours from, like shades of sunshine yellow.

Our nod to Pantone's Ultimate Grey is our popular cool and cloudy sky-grey, Thor. Just like the colour of the grey pebbles on a beach, Thor can stand the test of time. A colour with integrity and resilience that stands tall, and welcomes other shades with open arms.
